The Little One’s daughter, Veronica, has asked a question concerning body image. She is concerned that her body does not equate with her internal feelings.

We see many in this position, Dear Hearts. We see many whose body image is not as the individual appreciates.

There are a number of questions that must be asked when we consider body image.

Firstly: Is the body image (within the mind) beneficial to the individual? That is, Dear Hearts:

Does the image represent health?

If the answer is yes, Dear Ones, then the image held (being healthful, alert and alive) would constitute health. If, however, the image is not possible to be attained in a healthful manner, then this would not constitute health.

And how is this known by the individual in question?

We could look at the measures known such as B.M.I., etc. However, Dear Ones, the measurements are not constructed to envelope all mankind. No, Dear Hearts, to rely on such measurements would not be placing your faith in a construct of health. For, Dear Hearts, it is ‘health’ that determines the activity level/energy value of the individual. Is it not? Is it not one’s health that overrides all things?

The Little One is nodding, Dear Hearts. Since her recent illness she now understands the validity of health as the number 1 priority of life. Is this not so, dearest?

Yes, it is absolutely so. As I age, I appreciate how important good health is. As you’ve said, the activity level, energy, etc., is regulated by the health of the organism.

Indeed, dearest, this is true indeed.

I still don’t understand what constitutes health, as far as the body is concerned. How much weight, for instance, constitutes health? How much fat is too much? Are we meant to be lean and mean, so to speak? Or is it healthier to have some fat hugging our bones? I really don’t know the answers to these questions. What does ‘perfection’ mean in regard to our body size?

More appropriately, dearest, how much weight constitutes health for the organism. In your case, dearest, you would like to know if you are currently overweight. Yes?

Yes, I would like to have the answer to that question.

Right, dearest, we shall answer succinctly. You are indeed a trifle overweight. We see you looking in the mirror, dearest. You do not enjoy the sight?

No, I don’t. I really enjoy being somewhat lean and toned. To be lean and toned means not eating as much as I am, and enjoying regular exercise to tone the muscles.

Indeed, dearest, and why are you not doing this?

I feel an overwhelming desire to eat foods even when I know I have had enough.

And this disturbs you?

Yes, it does. I eat knowing that the excess food will become fat upon my hips and waist.

And you do not enjoy this, dearest?

No, I don’t. I can’t seem to hold on to my desire to be lean and toned. I grasp it, for a while, and then I lose it, so to speak.

Indeed, dearest, it is a struggle. Is it not?

Yes, it is. How can I gain command?

We shall assist, should you ask for help.

Thank You. I’m asking for help now.

And so be it, dearest. We hear your call.
